Jairo Valdati MEMORIE DI UN NATURALISTA ROMANTICO L'EFFIGIE SUL TACCUINO MEMORIE DI UN NATURALISTA ROMANTICO La prima ragione di poesia per Wordsworth è quella celebre delle emozioni ricordate in tranquillità (« emotions recollected in tranquillity »): emozioni cercate, desiderate per necessità intima. Le sensazioni sono recepite tramite un'avventura dello spirito, ossia il contatto non mediato e impari e impetuoso con la natura e i suoi elementi, infine le emozioni raccolte sono dispiegate in ideale solitudine, dipanate con passione, decifrate e messe in ordine, almeno tanto quanto sia possibile a un animo romantico. La creazione è in due movimenti: il primo è l'esporsi all'attacco, alla forza della natura e delle sue misteriose simmetrie, il secondo è il ritrarsi coerente; c'è il passaggio della soglia e c'è la volontà di ricordarlo, traducendolo in unità di senso amiche, rassicuranti. Uno: ricerca del sublime; due: protezione dal sublime. Il secondo movimento è il tentativo di riportare quelle stesse emozioni a noi, al di qua dell'ineffabile, al riparo dall'esperienza liminale. In una insolitamente matura congiunzione di esperienze, la poetica di Jairo Valdati armonizza questo tipo di idealismo con la sua storica opposizione naturalistica. Fondendo gli opposti, la suggestiva instabilità romantica trova infine compimento in un terzo movimento: quello dell'osservazione partecipante, grazie alla quale la suggestione si fa sistema mentre la scientificità naturalistica diventa emozione condivisa e aggetta dal taccuino come una struttura di segni parlanti. Che raccontano essenzialità ed emozione, ossia tutto ciò che è vita e solo ciò che è vita e nient'altro. Proprio la ragione che spinse Thoreau ad andare nei boschi (per vivere in saggezza e profondità, per sbaragliare tutto ciò che non era vita) è la stessa ragione che ci trattiene a pensare nei giardini di Jairo Valdati. THE EFFIGY ON THE SKETCHBOOK MEMORIES OF A ROMANTIC NATURALIST The first reason to write poetry according to Wordsworth is the one of the renowned « emotions recollected in tranquillity »: emotions that are desired and sought after out of an intimate necessity. Sensations are thus received by means of a spiritual adventure, that is to say the direct, unequal and impetuous contact with nature and its elements; finally the collected emotions are displayed in ideal isolation, disentangled with passion, deciphered and put in order, at least as much order as possible for a romantic soul. Creation is in two movements: the first one is the exposure to attack, to the force of nature and its mysterious symmetries, the second one is the consistent withdrawal; there is the crossing of the limen and there is the will to remember it and to translate it into friendly, reassuring units of meaning. One: quest for the sublime; two: protection from the sublime. The second movement is the attempt to bring those same emotions to us, on this side of the inexpressible, cotted from the liminal experience. In an unusually mature conjunction of experiences, the poetics of Jairo Valdati reconciles this kind of idealism with its historical opposition, naturalism. Combining the antipoles, the fascinating romantic instability finally finds completion in a third movement: the participant observation, thanks to which fascination turns into a system, whereas naturalistic appeal for science turns into a shared emotion and juts out of the sketchbook like a structure of speaking signs. These signs do narrate essence and emotion, namely everything that is life and only what is life, and nothing else. That very reason that pushed Thoreau to go to the woods (to front only the essential facts of life, to put to rout all that was not life) is the same reason that invites us now to linger in Jairo Valdati's gardens.
